About My Teaching Practice
Printmaking, mixed media, watercolor, and creative workshops for museums, schools, libraries, community organizations, and arts spaces.
I am an artist and teaching artist specializing in accessible, experimental approaches to printmaking, mixed media, and watercolor. I design workshops that invite participants to explore materials and develop confidence in their own creative voices., as well introduce a solid foundation in the medium.
My teaching work grows directly from my studio practice as a printmaker and mixed-media artist where I’m drawn to generating a lot of work as a means of self discovery as well as experimenting with a process in non-traditional way.
I am especially interested in finding ways to bring printmaking beyond the traditional print studio. My teaching artist work centers on exploring DIY and mobile approaches to printmaking, while introducing the fundamentals that every artist can take with them.
My Experience
I hold an M.A. in Art and Art Education from Teachers College, Columbia University, and have developed and taught art programs with Brooklyn Public Library’s ARTMobile, JC Print Room, Teachers College Print Studio, Artistic Noise, and ArtStart and other community arts settings.
Workshops I Teach with k-12 & adults:
Monoprinting: Layering to create one-of-a-kind prints on a press and with Gelli plates.
Linocut & Block Printing: Carving, inking, and hand-printing blocks on paper, cards, and other surfaces.
Collagraph Printmaking: Building textured printing plates from cardboard, recycled materials, fabric, and found objects.
Tetra Pak Drypoint: An accessible approach to intaglio drypoint using recycled Tetra Pak cartons.
Watercolor:Exploring color, washes, layering, mark-making, and observational or abstract painting.
Oil Pastel Monotypes: Creating painterly, one-of-a-kind prints through drawing, transfer, and experimentation.
Mixed Media & Collage: Combining printmaking, drawing, painting, collage, and found materials.
White Line Woodcut: American woodcut style using watercolor and hand pressing, started in 20th century Provincetown.
DIY Silkscreen: Using stencils and contact paper, for a mobile studio environment.
Print a Fish: A participatory Japanese printmaking workshop using Gyotaku replica fish.
Custom workshops and curriculum: Programs are available in a range of mixed media drawing, printmaking, and painting tailored to audience and group.
